Cadbury came out with an advertisement featuring Shah Rukh Khan as the brand ambassador of local businesses.


The festive season is upon us and it is time for brands to promote their festive-specific products with full fervour. Cadbury is one of the brands that often comes up with thought-provoking and relatable commercials during special occasions and festivals, and this time was no different either. This Diwali, the company came out with an advert featuring Shah Rukh Khan as the brand ambassador of small, local businesses that suffered due to the coronavirus pandemic and the internet is lauding the initiative.


The ad, titled ‘Not just a Cadbury Ad, began with a voice-over and bytes of local businessmen telling the viewers how badly they were affected due to the pandemic. “This Diwali, we helped hundreds of small businesses by making India’s biggest brand ambassador, their brand ambassador,” the video continued.


Cut to the next shot, Shah Rukh Khan appeared dressed up in a cream-coloured sherwani. He took the names of different shops and urged the viewers to buy clothes, shoes, sweets, gadgets etc. from them. The brand informed through the commercial that they used machine learning to recreate Shah Rukh Khan’s face and voice to take the local store names in the ad. “It is impossible to cover all the stores, so we gave the power to the people to create their own version of ‘Not Just a Cadbury Ad’,” the video continued.


Ahead of special occasions and events, Cadbury often comes up with relatable advertisements that instantly connect with the viewers. This Diwali, the American multinational confectionery brand has made Bollywood star Shahrukh Khan the brand ambassador of hundreds of local businesses that have been adversely affected due to the Covid-19 Pandemic.


Humare aas paas ki jo dukaane hai, unki bhi to Diwali meethi honi chahiye na (The small stores around us deserve to have a happy Diwali),” said Shah Rukh towards the end of the video.


“Big businesses and brands that suffered during the pandemic found their way back but the smaller stores still suffer,” began the 2.18-minute clip as it goes on to feature some of the many shopkeepers and small business owners. Titled “Not Just A Cadbury Ad”, the ad used machine learning to recreate the actor’s face and voice to promote local stores.


“It is impossible to cover all the store, so we gave people the power to create their own version of not just a Cadbury ad,” the video continues as it elaborates how the video can be easily used by business owners to customise and share on various social media platforms.


Since being shared online, the video has gone viral and garnered over 50,000 views with many praising the company’s initiative.
