General Motors invented and popularized the concept car in the 1950s and since then, car manufacturers have used concept cars as a testbed for futuristic technologies.

The design and technological features of road-legal cars are influenced by regulations, company objectives, and market demand. This means concept cars liberate car designers and allow them to dream up ideas that push the boundaries of technology without any of the traditional limitations of road-legal cars.

This is why concept cars are often unconventional designs, many of which will never make it to production. Car manufacturers also use concept cars to gauge customer reaction to new car designs and to determine if such designs will be viable in the market.

Concept cars of 2020 are diverse and they range from flying cars to movie-inspired car concepts.
